The third International Yoga Day is being celebrated in more than 180 countries worldwide. Events kicked off last week in several countries, with enthusiasts gathering in public places for a healthy dose of yoga.

Its been three years since June 21 became the international day of Yoga. The world unites on this day every year, with people from all nations, continents and places pulling out their yoga mats to celebrate and soak the benefits yoga offers, to experience the oneness of body and mind.

Much like Bollywood movies, yoga has become a synonym for India’s soft power. Yoga is India's gift to the world and is increasingly being adopted across the world. This ancient fitness regimen has become a global phenomenon. And Just like Indian Traditions of global oneness, yoga resonates the Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

To mark the 3rd international Yoga Day foreign missions in New Delhi converged with full force at Delhi's Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra.

Over 80 diplomats with ambassadors and high commissioners of many countries including Israel, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan attended the yoga celebrations. The Focus of the yoga celebrations were not only mental and physical health but also for world peace.

Hailing the global support India received in the UN as it passed a resolution to declare 21st of June as international yoga day, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said yoga belongs not merely to India, but to the whole world.

Heads of foreign missions, lauded the event, the first such program organized by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Elsewhere the International day of yoga was marked with enthusiasm and fervour all over the globe. Hundreds gathered in the US to celebrate International Yoga Day, where India's Ambassidor Navtej Sarna led yoga day celebrations. Nearly 2000 people from all walks of life attended the event and participated in the celebrations with great enthusiasm in Washington DC.

India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations organised a 'Yoga Session with Yoga Masters' at the UN's headquarters. More than 1000 yoga practitioners came together to perform asanas in common yoga protocol. The theme for this year's International Yoga day is 'yoga for health.'

Across the Atlantic in London, the iconic London Eye was the venue for yoga day event as it witnessed Londoners practicing yoga while enjoying the magnificent view.

At the same time and in Paris, the fields near the Eiffel tower, witness too many romantic rendezvous became the perfect ground for yoga lovers as they made a mark of their own in observing the Yoga Day.

In south Asia too it was marked with full splendour from Dhaka to Kabul to Sri Lanka. Yoga day was marked at Indian high commission in Pakistan. Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale led the yoga celebrations.
