Nepal Parl. meeting to elect new PM postponed till TuesdayUpdated on : 04-06-2017 05:42 PM
The Nepal Parliament meeting to elect new Prime Minister has been postponed till Tuesday. The meeting was scheduled at 11 AM on Sunday but it was first postponed till 3 PM and again till Tuesday 1 PM.

The meeting could not take place as main opposition CPN (UML) stated that it would obstruct the house proceedings. The party is demanding resumption of counting of votes at Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

The counting was stopped after some ballot papers were torn in ward no. 19. The Election Commission has declared all votes of ward 19 invalid and ordered re-polling in the ward.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is the only candidate for premiership. He filed his nomination on Saturday.

Outgoing Prime Minister and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed his name. Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Nepal Loktantrik Forum President Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar supported his nomination. Deuba is likely to be elected prime minister as ruling coalition is having majority in the house.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal had resigned from prime minister’s post on May 24 as per the power sharing understanding with the coalition partner Nepali Congress. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had accepted his resignation and asked PM Dahal to continue till formation of the new government.
