Kerala: Nurses' indefinite strike continues for 8th day

Kerala: NursesUpdated on : 05-07-2017 07:00 PM
The indefinite strike of nurses in Kerala organized by the Indian Nurses Association demanding standard wages is continuing in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kozhikode for the 8th day.

The Association is also holding a stir in various districts with the backing of the Indian Nurses Association. Though the state Health minister K. K. Shylaja had appealed to the nurses to end the strike in the wake of growing sufferings of patients, there has been no response from protesting nurses.

In 2016, a recommendation by a special committee assigned by the Supreme Court had said that all privately owned hospitals with 50 bed plus capacity had to make sure that nurses get salaries at par with those in the government sector.
