The West Bengal government has announced a judicial inquiry into the clashes at Baduria and Basirhat in the North 24 Parganas district. The Centre sent four more BSF companies to control the situation.

The probe would be headed by Justice (Retd) Soumitra Pal of the Calcutta High Court, WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said.

The Chief Minister has blamed the opposition for flaring up riots in Basirhat and appealed to all to ignore rumours and maintain communal harmony in the state.

Meanwhile, BJP met the governor on Saturday and demanded immediate imposition of President's rule in the state on the ground of alleged break down of law and order situation.

In another development, Centre sent four more BSF companies to control the situation in 24 North Parganas district.
