Children undertake initiatives to clean Varanasi

Children undertake initiatives to clean Varanasi Updated on : 10-01-2017 09:42 AM
The initiative of a group of children has given an impetus to the cleanliness drive in Varanasi.

Youth play a key role in any transformation but now children too are becoming vehicles of constructive change.

Meet these children from Varanasi. They are young heads on mature shoulders.

After realising that though toilets were constructed in their city there were no child friendly urinals they started a campaign to build child-friendly toilets in Varanasi.

The children's club held discussions with NGO Pragati Path Foundation and through it got in touch with office-bearers of the local civic body and apprised its office-bearers with their idea and requirements.

This led the Varanasi Municipal Corporation to direct Sulabh International that had constructed community toilets in the city to build child-friendly urinals.

Children's initiative even encouraged the corporation to invite suggestions for a child-friendly smart city.

The Children's Club also appeals to people to not litter in public places. It works towards cleanliness in slums and creating awareness across sections of society on cleanliness.

Participation of children in Swachch Bharat campaign is being welcomed by all and this has the potential to motivate people.

Their initiative raises hopes about the success of the Cleanliness Campaign.
